Artist Statement

Currently I am using portraiture as a way of dissecting my subjects, physically and psychologically. I present heightened realities, through the Acknowledgement of human imperfection and mortality.

Darker themes emerge in the form of emotional tensions and anxieties, created by expression and subtle exaggerations in the construction of the face. Yet through the labour of this practice I am able to glorify and enhance an individual, giving them a voice, allowing them to be noticed. My work attempts to capture a sense of the everyday, through the unembellished portrayal of these people’s realities.

Essentially my work aims to portray reality and realise the importance of the everyday. I feel I am representing something universal, something almost everyone can relate to through a memory, a feeling or a connection to the subject.
